Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical technique performed at the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Dr. Elie Abdelhak to improve the body’s contour by removing excess fat deposits located between the skin and muscle

The Day of Your Liposuction

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia for 2 hours. The technique used is mainly the vaser liposuction which is the most recent technique.

Vaser liposuction is an advanced technology used to shape problem areas of the body using sound waves. Ultrasonic waves are used to break up fatty tissue. As the fat liquefies, it is suctioned through a small tube. It is different from other methods of fat removal, such as laser liposuction, in that it has the ability to break up fat cells while leaving other important tissue, such as skin and muscle tissue and blood vessels, intact.

Vaser liposuction generally will take place in a doctor’s office or outpatient center. The patient can receive local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the treatment. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and the patient is able to leave the doctor’s office as soon as the anesthesia wears off.

Recovery Time

Recovery time with vaser liposuction is much quicker than with traditional liposuction which can take several weeks for recovery. Usually, patients can see immediate results. However, full results are usually seen three to four months after surgery.

This procedure is considered to be superior to other body shaping procedures because there is minimal bruising and swelling after surgery. Recovery time is less than with traditional procedures.

Am i a candidate for liposuction?

If you are bothered by excess fat deposits – located anywhere on your body – that don’t respond to diet or exercise, liposuction may be right for you.

FAQs

How long will the results lasts ?

Patients are often concerned about weight gain after the procedure. A healthy diet along with regular exercise should reduce the chances of the weight returning. However, if weight gain does occur, it will most likely not collect in one particular area, but will be distributed proportionately. Patients need to remember that weight changes also take place with age.

Liposuction should not replace a healthy diet and regular exercise. It is a procedure that removes fat from specific areas in order to give a more flattering figure. Though most patients don’t lose weight with the procedure, they are usually pleased with the results.

What to expect from liposuction?

You will be the most uncomfortable and swollen for the first week and you will notice that you feel better each day. Around week 1-2 the swelling will become very firm. This firmness will be around for 1-3 months. Your body will send specialized cells to the area to begin breaking down this firm swelling. This process varies widely and can take 1-3 months and sometimes longer. The firmness will soften up at varying rates on different parts of the areas treated. So this means that you may have firm lumps of swelling for a period of time while you are healing. This is normal and will resolve. Since you will be swollen for 1-3 months, what you see early in your recovery is not the final results.
