The Day of Your Breast Reduction

The surgery is done under a general anesthesia and takes from 3 to 4 hours. With one night stay in clinic and surrounded by the medical staff, the healing is smooth and takes around 12 days stay in Beirut in order to have a post-consultation visit.

Recovery Time

You will need to take at least one week off from work or school for breast reduction surgery. Some people need two weeks, but each situation varies. Your surgeon will instruct you on follow-up appointments for removing bandages and stitches.

While you recover, you’ll need to stop physical activity for at least one month after surgery.

After breast reduction surgery, you should expect to feel tired and to have breast pain. This is normal. Your surgeon will give you an oral painkiller to ease you through the first few days after surgery. You should also avoid heavy lifting.

Am I a candidate for breast reduction?

You are a candidate for breast reduction if you have:

• Disproportionately large breasts that are causing neck pain, back pain, or other physical symptoms.
• Grooves in shoulders caused by tight bra straps
• Poor posture due to breast size
• Heavy breasts that droop significantly, with downward pointing nipples and areolas
• Trouble sleeping due to breast discomfort when lying down
• Rashes and/or infection affecting the skin trapped beneath one’s breasts
• Inability to participate in athletic/physical activities due to breast size
• Feelings of self-consciousness regarding breast size

What do you expect from breast lifting?

After breast reduction, you can expect to enjoy smaller, lighter breasts for a lifetime, so long as you maintain a stable weight and do not have any more children. However, nothing can stop the normal aging process. Eventually your breasts will probably begin to sag once again, although not as severely as they might have before breast reduction.

Also, future pregnancies are likely to change the shape, size, and appearance of your breasts, possibly reversing some of the positive changes made during breast reduction. If you are planning to have more children, talk to your cosmetic surgeon. He or she can help you weigh the pros and cons of having surgery now or waiting until you have finished having children.
