Arm Lift

Led by Dr. Elie Abdelhak, the top plastic surgery center in Lebanon performs arm lift surgery to improve the appearance of the under portion of your upper arms. During an arm lift, excess skin and fat are removed from the underarms — between the armpit and elbow. The skin is then draped back over the newly repositioned contours to create a more toned look.

Arm lift is a surgical procedure that can be performed using two techniques. The full upper arm lift involves an incision in the armpit and along the underside of the arm to the elbow. In the mini arm lift, the incision is made in the arm pit.

The Day of Your Arm Lift

The procedure typically takes 1 to 2hours, but may take longer depending on the extent of the surgery and any additional procedures, such as liposuction, that are performed at the same time. To perform the arm lift surgery, Dr. Elie will make incisions on the inside or back of your arm. Incisions may span from the underarm to just above the elbow, depending on the amount of excess skin.

Before the incision is made, Dr. Abdelhak may use liposuction to remove excess fat. Excessive skin is then removed, tightened and sutured into place with deep sutures will absorb over time. Following your arm lift surgery in Beirut, dressings or bandages may be applied to your incisions, and your arms may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or a compression garment to minimize swelling.

Recovery Time

Dr. Elie Abdelhak recommends limiting strenuous activity for 2 weeks. You can go back to a desk job after about 5-7 days but you have to minimize your arm movement. Scarring will be minimal eventually but you need to give it time to heal.

Dr. Elie generally utilizes compression garments for 3 to 4 weeks following arm lift surgery. It’s important to understand that each patient’s situation is unique and for this reason, compression garments are occasionally used for longer periods of time. In some cases, patients may feel more comfortable wearing these garments in the post-operative period.

Am I a candidate for arm lift?

If the underside of your upper arms are sagging or appear loose and full due to excess skin, this procedure may be right for you. Thin people may also have sagging upper arms due to the effects of prior weight loss, aging and genetics. Even regular exercise and strength training cannot get rid of excess sagging skin in this area; exercise can tone and tighten muscles but cannot tighten skin.

Good candidates for an arm lift include:

  • Adults with significant upper arm skin excess and laxity
  • Adults of any age whose weight is relatively stable and who are not significantly overweight
  • Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that can impair healing or increase risk of surgery
  • Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic expectations.

FAQs

How long will the results last?

The results of surgery will be visible immediately after surgery. However, best results are typically seen two to three months after surgery, once all of the swelling has gone down. At this time, you should notice that your arms look significantly slimmer and more toned. Best of all, when you maintain a healthy, stable weight, the results of your arm lift could last the rest of your life.
